„Afrofuturism“: The Hidden Code

In this lecture, multimedia artist, composer and writer Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky expands the concept of DJ with elements of data, conceptual art, collage, loops and layers. From his popular DJ app for iPad, which has enjoyed over 25 million downloads, to his latest book “Imaginary App” on how apps have changed everything, DJ Spooky will discuss how technology has shaped creativity throughout history and continues to guide how we actualize the future.


Short Bio:
DJ Spooky aka Paul D. Miller is the executive editor of ORIGIN Magazine and is a composer, multimedia artist, editor and author. His DJ MIXER iPad app has seen more than 12 million downloads in the last year. In 2012-2013 he is the first artist-in-residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC starting this fall. He's produced and composed work for Yoko Ono, Thurston Moore, and scores of artists and award-winning films. Miller's work as a media artist has appeared in the Whitney Biennial; The Venice Biennial for Architecture, the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Germany; Kunsthalle, Vienna; The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and many other museums and galleries.

Paul D. Miller is going to present his new book "The Imaginery App" at Walther König book store at the Museumsquartier on Dezember 4, 7 p.m.
This Artist Talk is part of a cooperation between the Digital Arts department and TONSPUR Kunstverein Wien (artistic director: Georg Weckwerth).
