Reflecting Oil: Vom Wort zur Substanz
Erdöl ist eine problematische Ressource, die in ihrer vielfältigen Wandelbarkeit die Grundlage unserer modernen Gesellschaft darstellt. Sie ist das Fundament unserer globalen Petro-Kultur, durchdringt unsere Alltagswelt in komplexer Weise und seine kulturelle Formung der Gesellschaft ist kaum bewusst.
Die installative Arbeit Vom Wort zur Substanz thematisiert die omnipräsente Substanz Rohöl, dessen abstrakte Begrifflichkeit und ihre physische Präsenz. In ihrer Unmittelbarkeit und Einfachheit befragt die Installation unsere an Erdöl gekettete Realität und unsere Rolle als Petro-Subjekte.
Oil – in its many mutable forms – is a problematic resource and the foundation of our modern society. It is the basis of our global petroculture, permeates our everyday world in complex ways, and its cultural shaping of society is widely unknown. The installation, Reflecting Oil Ð From Word to Substance, addresses crude oil‘s omnipresence, abstract conceptuality, and physical presence. In its immediacy and simplicity, the installation questions our reality tied to crude oil and our role as petro-subjects.
Ernst Logar * Klagenfurt, 1965 - Künstler und Kulturarbeiter, lebt in Wien. Seit 1995 Auseinandersetzung mit den Medien Fotografie, Film und Skulptur sowie installative Arbeiten. In seiner Arbeit thematisiert Logar bestehende Machtverhältnisse ebenso wie auch zeitgeschichtliche, soziokulturelle und ökologische Phänomene.
Ernst Logar * Klagenfurt (AT), 1965, artist and cultural worker, lives in Vienna. He has been working with photography, film, sculpture, and installations since 1995. In his work, he addresses existing power structures and historical, sociocultural, and ecological phenomena.
