Dominik Grünbühel - I am the Mockingbird
The mockingbird is indigenous to Central and North America and occupies a special place within North American literature.
'Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people’s gardens, don't nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.'" (From "To Kill A Mockingbird", chapter 10. Harper Lee, 1960). See also the lullaby Hush Little Baby or Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking (Walt Whitman).
