The “Angewandte Showroom”

Generative Art and Tools • Science • Code • Algorithm

Expanded Digital Paintbox

Media art dissects the gadgets, tools and codes of our technocratic world. What is a thumbscrew, what is an accessory? Media artworks do not offer simple answers, but refer explicitly to the global economy, technology and science in an inquiring, process-oriented, playful and real time manner at points of interface and where it pays to bring up a painful subject.

In the “Angewandte Showroom” teaching staff and graduates from the Institute of Fine and Media Art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna provide insights into both their “digital studio” and artistic strategies.

Exhibitions, presentations and discussion evenings alternate continually.

In an exchange of artistic, scientific and everyday discourses, the three media classes of the Angewandte place an emphasis on the questioning and analysis of technologyrelated social change, the interference of physical, spatial and time concepts within the context of this change and three-dimensional sculptures as a dispositive for the exposition of new dimensions. In the “media showcase” the Angewandte exhibits selected contributions from students from the three media classes, which are headed by Brigitte Kowanz, Virgil Widrich and Erwin Wurm. Continually changing video retrospectives.
