Simon Repp - synthiebike wien
[...] The result was a central interface, the concept and system architecture of which altered iteratively and repeatedly in the course of work over several months, until it assumed its current form. It consists of an abstract, monochromatic map of Vienna, which shows the City Bike stations as circles of varying dimensions (depending on their actual size) in differing grey tones (depending on capacity use). In addition, the cycle density for each point on the map has been interpolated. With a node-based system, the data on the map is scanned in a variety of movement patterns and translated into musical qualities (exemplified by pitch or timbres). Via the OSC protocol, the interface then controls various synthesizers (transposed in the supercollider), which generate the sounds.
Within the scope of the “Alias in Wonderland” exhibition, the sonification will be presented using an 8-channel sound variation installation.
