“INFLUENCES: Public Art and Architecture - Ephemeral, Interactive, and Virtual Perspectives”

Abstract:
Throughout history, noted artists and architects have developed creative content from prevailing issues deemed most relevant at the time. Political, social, environmental, and scientific data have influenced creative practice. We will trace some of these contextualized projects found in art sited in the public realm and architecture. Current creative trends, such as building without individual as designer/author, creating place as in a state of continual transition, and highlighting projects that engender user selection, will be discussed from the perspective of advances in current technological systems, mobile connectivity, interactive media, and ubiquitous computing.
