This talk will give an insight into several artistic projects from 1994 - 2015, with an emphasis on the work of kondition pluriel.
kondition pluriel is an interdisciplinary digital performance group founded by Martin Kusch and Marie-Claude Poulin in 2000. Integrating dance and digital arts, the artists generate a language outside of established disciplines, focusing as much on the process as the artistic product. The motivation and challenges at the origin of kondition pluriel’s research and mission have been to understand, and open up to the unexpected in the processes of transposition and translation between the real and the digital world, specifically between the language of the body and the language of electronic media. All of kondition pluriel’s works articulate a specific performative approach, each by means of a sui generis digital and scenographic orchestration. They convey multiple visions of the body, and of the spectator’s and author’s roles. They play with our perceptions to transform the notion of space and temporality. By multiplying the modes of representation, the group expands the definition of performance and surpasses its traditional confines.

Martin Kusch studied art history, philosophy and painting in Berlin, and media arts with Peter Weibel at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, where he has also been teaching since 1997. He is the project lead of the fulldome-lab at the Digital Art department, University of Applied Arts Vienna and co-director of the E/M/D/L project. Founder and artistic co-director of the media performance group kondition pluriel. He is particularly interested in the transformation processes of the electronic media inside performative contexts, and on how digital technologies influence our perception of the body and space. His works have been presented at numerous festivals and institutions, such as: Ars Electronica (Linz), CYNETart (Dresden), CDA (Enghien les Bains), EMPAC (Troy), FIND (Montreal), ICA (London), ISEA (Nagoya, Helsinki, Essen), SAT (Montreal), Transmediale (Berlin), Mois-Multi (Quebec City), ZKM (Karlsruhe) and Museumsquartier (Vienna).
