GOTTFRIED HAIDER (media artist, software tool builder, Shanghai)

The expanded computer

Gottfried Haider, Drawing Circuits, 2013. Picture: artist

Gottfried Haider talks about his art practice, which can be described as a conceptually-driven, studio-based examination of the technological present with an emphasis on computation. Using various media, in combination with design and a close reading of technical systems and infrastructure, he makes art that functions both discursively as well as visually.

Gottfried Haider is an artist, educator and software tool builder. He received a degree in Digital Arts from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna in 2009, and an MFA from the Design Media Arts program at UCLA in 2013. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and media art festivals internationally. He currently works as an Assistant Arts Professor at NYU Shanghai.
