What if the design of the spaces we visit or inhabit was the work of algorithms ? In computer and information science, the definition in a database of categories, properties and relations between elements forms an ontology. When displayed in immersive experience apparatuses, ontologies expose explorable architectures of information. Ephemeral Ontologies is a framework for the construction of algorithmically generated explorable worlds. It facilitates the creation of assets (dataset) and algorithms that interpret the metadata for the design of explorable architectures in real-time. Wien Chiaroscuro is an immersive VR experience developed with the Ephemeral Ontologies (EO) authoring tools. The project documents contemporary Viennese society through interviews with people and visits to the places they inhabit.
